Who We Are
Bissa Foundation, Inc., also known as “Bissa Foundation” (BF), is a nonprofit organization (NPO) established in Texas on June 26, 2020 to usher in the vision of its founder Rev. Daniel Oyama. The purpose of this project is to bring hope and smile to every child with reduced mobility in the rural areas of Cameroon-Africa. There are many children in Cameroon with disabilities and in dire need of hope to trusting their future. Bissa Foundation will bring that smile into their life.
As at June 2020, there is not a specific study regarding children with disability in Cameroon. In 2004, according to the National Institute of Statistics in Cameroon, only one in five children with disabilities, is receiving some form of services or assistance. According to EDS-MICS/2011, individuals with disabilities represent 6% of the population in Cameroon.
Bissa Foundation was created in order to join the efforts of administrative institutions and charitable organizations to help and support children coping with reduced mobilities, thus bringing hope and a smile into their life.
Dedication to My Mom in Loving Memory
My mom was 22 years old when she gave birth of her first son. After the birth of the boy, the joy and happiness of this young mother were put to test just months, after an intramuscular injection made clumsily at the hospital which caused the atrophy of muscle mass of her baby’s left leg as he was preparing to take his first steps. This child is me. My mom did not experience it as a fatality. She armed herself with courage and determination, affection and attention so that this accident does not turn into a nightmare.
That is why she spared no effort to accompany me where I had to receive care, massage, psychological support, functional rehabilitation so that my reduced mobility will be accepted, and my future and fulfillment will not be compromised.
Mom was born in March 22nd 1959 and she passed away in August 5th 2000. Peace to her soul. Three of her children had major health problems. Alone or with the help of my dad and other family members, she knew how to find satisfactory solutions each time. She worked tiredness for the care of children with reduced mobility. Today, the legacy of the work she began is now the starting of a long chain of solidarity through Bissa Foundation.
15 years from her passing, my siblings and myself joining with our dad decided to create a nonprofit Foundation in her loving memory to help the children with mobility problems. Children she so dearly loved and cared for, it took 2 years for the formation of Fondation Bissa (NPO). After successful training, in 2017 we received the approval of the Government in Cameroon as a NPO. It is time now to commit the beautiful work in action a Bissa Foundation for the special children.
